THE GREAT KITTEN ESCAPE

i laughed my socks off while making this classic movie parody. i hope you enjoy it too! the brilliant original music by Elmer Bernstein absolutely makes it. you’ll be whistling the theme song for the rest of the day! (double click the screen to view fullscreen) if you have issues viewing in the video below,…

Kristen - What a clever little fellow…super cute. I love him already. James won’t let me get another kitty booo…lol

welcome to the family!

i am very excited to announce the addition of a new furry member to my family! (yes, that’s right…i am one step closer to being dubbed “the crazy animal lady down the street”, and i’m totally okay with that.) you may remember The Riverdale Gang…well, little Archie, who captured my heart during our photo shoot,…

jacqueline - I love your new cat and I’m interested in adopting Moose!

LisaMarie Nicholson - I just discovered your website through TCR’s – I’m a foster parent and volunteer with the group.

This is one of the MOST tender hearted pictures I have ever come across – you have a gorgeous little family!

My blog (which follows our journey as foster parents) is http://www.catfosterparent.blogspot.com – feel free to visit.

Christine Bode - These are so adorable, Marcia! I think Archie is so sweet that I’m not in the least bit surprised that he stole your heart. I’m sure that Cameron will come around too. That video made me laugh! At least Tichka loves the little guy! Sooo sweet together, they are! I love your ginger kids!

tabitha - I wont take Cameron long. A few days, maybe a week tops. She just needs establish herself as the “dominant” one. Karma and Chimo took a while to adjust to each other, but by the time I got Maverick….it was instant love.

stacey grieve - OMG, too cute! That’s great that Tichka and Archie have already bonded…I’ve been waiting almost 2 years for that to happen with my dog and cats. You must such a proud mom!

Janet - I love your pictures and the video is soo funny, of course the one you thought would bond instantly instead does the opposite. I love the last picture with Tichka. She is even sharing her bed with him. Not something my gang would do… lol

georgie - i LOVE LOVE LOVE that last picture!! congrats on your new addition and family member. I loved the video. So cute! he’s very cute. Lots of cute :D

i love it when animals bond

a foggy day

i must admit, i can get very snobby and set-in-my-ways when it comes to light. i know what lighting situations i enjoy shooting in. the times when the light is not ideal, i refuse to shoot. early one morning last week, i showed up to a location in farm country. it was sooooooooooooo foggy that…

Julie Cook - Loved the shots, Marce!

Kristen - Wow these shots are amazing! It really makes me want to get out of the city and go to cottage country or just a drive out to the country for the day. Jealous you got to spend all day out at a farm.

Janet - the Hunt field looks great… sort of spooky, recognize it.
as usual, your pictures are wonderful.

georgie - hahah you’re like me! Certain times of day are my enemy in terms of light. noon light…YAWN!! but then i keep bullying myself..”aren’t you a photographer?? shouldn’t you make magic out of ANY light??”..i think we should always be able to choose our lighting :)

but i think the fog is so special because you can get amazing things from that. and it’s rare! I hope you get to post some of your foggy day photoshoot pictures. I bet they came out great. That BW photo is AWESOME!

mouse vs. mouse

you know those unbelievable moments in romantic comedies where it seems soooooooo set-up that you can’t imagine it happening to someone in real life? i used to be a major sceptic of those scenes, but over time i have come to the realization that many situations in my own life are just as far-fetched. like…

Anouk - Come on!!! Oh man, what a great story!!!! Seriously, you need cameras following you around wherever you go! What are the odds of that happening!? Awesome.
Marce- you made my day. AND the pictures say so much- fantastic!!!!
oxxoxo

Heather Rivlin - I firmly believe that it would only happen to you ;)

I am not afraid of mice either, and think they are cute….but I think I’d do the same if I found one suddenly on me….ack! glad he escaped alive :)

Jen M - Thank you for the hilarious story! I definitely need to link a few cat/mouse lover friends up to your blog!

stacey grieve - That is hilarious! I too love little rodents, used to have lots of them as pets. I’ve graduated to bigger pets now, the feline and canine sorts, but I would have done exactly what you did and trap him and take him outside and release. “Jerry” was lucky he landed in your house and not “Sylvester’s”

Pam - EEEK!!! I would have done more than scream if a mouse got up my sleeve.

melissa - I just screamed and shivered at my desk….eeeeek!! You are good..I don’t know what I would have done!!

Christine Bode - This is an awesome blog! I loved your descriptions and can totally relate to those rom-com moments that are just to surreal to be believed! Kudos to you for setting Mr. Mouse free outdoors and being so quick with the camera as well. I have 3 rats for pets so having one up my sleeve wouldn’t freak me out but I can see how it would have startled you! Thanks for sharing this hilarious vignette from your life, Marcia!

Debbie Allan - I think I would have had a massive heart attack on the spot if it was in my hoodie! I was freaking out at the start of the story and thinking how brave you were taking photos of it in the corner….

NB Mice and pigeons are the most scary things in the whole world! Give me spiders any day.

Never a dull moment in your world!

Kristen - That is a priceless story love it…I think you need to big brother up your house so we can see the adventures of one Ms Marcia Leeder…lol

MaryLou Fletcher - Tooo funny!

georgie - haha the little guy surely knew you were on his side.
at my old apartment, a rat came up the toilet pipes and it eventually drowned because he got tired from swimming :(

but…like you said…who does this happen to???!! i think i’d rather have a mouse trapped in my sleeve than have a rat die in my toilet

Aron Goss - **shutter** I am sooo much more of a baby than you obviously. Hilarious.

the hot ‘dog days’ of summer

here in toronto, we are experiencing a record high for summer temperatures…and it doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. here is my list of tips for keeping your dogs cool this summer: 1. if you don’t have central air, limit them to the lower floors in your home… or find other ways to…

Caryn Charlie Liles - Great tips!! And even better pics. I love it.

A few others:

- don’t shave your dog in the summer as it exposes their skin to direct sunlight, causing sunburns. It can also mean that you’ve removed their undercoat which acts as a sunblocking barrier and an insulating layer (keeping the cool in).

- use canine sunblock if you have to – don’t worry about the mess.

- limit the ice cubes to a small handful every hour or two – it can cause dehydration since the body has to work harder to warm the water for processing.

- keep a white facecloth in your bag when you’re out – you can soak it and lay it over their head to help cool them faster.

- keep YOURSELF hydrated and cool; what use will you be if you have sunstroke? Your dog is likely not going to read these tips so he won’t know to call your GP. LOL

Nicely done, Marcia!!

Dwyn Tomlinson - Point number 4 – “the ground is hot” is a good one – and folks tend to forget it. Asphalt and concrete sidewalks can burn too. The photos to illustrate this list are a delight!

Kristen McKay - Oh my God the picture of Cameron at the end is priceless. Great tips to know. I didn’t know about the ice cube thing at all.

Nicole Klimack - Gorgeous dogs. Great pics!
